All About Carrie

Hello, fellow travel lovers! My name is Carrie Williams. I’m a 20-something Chicago girl who loves to travel. The first time I ever flew on a plane, I was by myself and I was only 15 years old.

In college, I couldn’t decide on a major (or a school). After trying out four majors and five schools (in two cities and another country), I finally settled on Saint Xavier University in Chicago. My first semester at SXU, I joined the college newspaper, the literary magazine and the radio station. Through all of this, I learned two things: I love to write, and I live to travel.

I was on a path to become a high school English teacher. When I expressed an interest in writing, someone had asked, “Well, can’t you write on the side?” I came to the conclusion that the answer was… “HECK NO.” I’m a writer. It’s what I do, and I won’t put it on the back burner. Since earing my degree, I’ve held a few part-time copywriter/freelancer jobs in lieu of a 9 to 5, Monday through Friday position. Why? Being a part-timer has allowed me to travel… a lot. My passion for writing and my love of traveling inspired me to create Gettin’ Carried Away.

This award-winning travel blog highlights memories from my previous travels, in addition to timely features from my current trips and exciting, anticipatory posts about my future travel plans. I am always ready to give plenty of recommendations, and I’ll even give you fair warning about the not-so-great places out there. When I’m is not traveling, I am covering industry news and offering helpful tips.

So get Carried away! Follow me on my journey as I attempt to achieve all of my travel goals:

  • Visit all 30 Major League Baseball parks before the age of 30
  • See all 50 states by the age of 50
